Head & Shoulders said on Monday it had taken a $1 million Lloyd's of London policy on the locks of Pittsburgh Steelers' Polamalu, the Super Bowl-winning safety.
Polamalu, 29, who was born in the United States but is of Samoan descent, says he has not cut his hair since 2000. He has been a spokesman for the Procter & Gamble Co brand for two years.
"They've created the first ever insurance policy to protect his iconic mane for the entire NFL season," Procter & Gamble said in a statement.
Why the hell would you insure your hair, I mean if someone steals or cuts it I guess you get a million dollar weave.

An exotic dancer at CR Fannys gentlemen's club in Wilson Borough pocketed more than $25,000 in workers' compensation benefits while claiming to be injured while working a separate waitress job, authorities said Thursday.
Christina Gamble, 43, of Quakertown, Pa., allegedly filed a workers' compensation claim against the Red Robin restaurant in Richland Township, Bucks County.
She collected thousands of dollars in benefits while she was dancing as a stripper at the club, according to Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett.
Gamble claimed she fell during a shift Nov. 9, 2007. Her doctor said she was unable to work because standing and changing positions were painful for her, according to court records.
The injury came a week after the restaurant hired her; she quit her job after it happened, records say.
Eight days after her doctor examined her, she was seen working as an exotic dancer at the strip club on Butler Street, records say.
Highmark Casualty Insurance Co. paid Gamble $22,727 in disability benefits and $4,118 in medical expenses relating to her claim, according to records.
Highmark investigated her claim after receiving a tip from one of Gamble's co-workers at Red Robin that she was working as an exotic dancer. The insurance company investigators obtained surveillance video of Gamble dancing in the club, records say.
Records say Gamble told police she worked as an exotic dancer because she and her husband needed money and feared they'd lose everything they owned.
Efforts to reach Gamble on Thursday for further comment were unsuccessful. A phone number listed under her name was disconnected.
Records say she worked at Target in Richland Township from Dec. 1 to Dec. 12, during the period she was allegedly injured. Gamble told investigators she quit Target due to back pain, records say.
Gamble is charged with two counts of workers' compensation insurance fraud and one count of theft by deception. All the charges are felonies and each carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
