MOTOROLA ATRIX 4G
The Motorola ATRIX 4G is the fastest smartphone not yet on the market. Come March 6th, however, it will be. AT&T has landed a screamingly fast Android device courtesy of Motorola, and that’s not all. The device is so powerful that it can power a laptop with full Firefox browser, and spit out 1080p video like it’s nothing.

TECH TUESDAY: VIZIO PHONE AND TABLET
Some companies started with a core computer business and expanded into entertainment. Vizio is taking the opposite approach with its Vizio Smartphone & Tablet ($TBA). Officially called the VIA Phone and VIA Tablet — after the company's Internet Apps — these Android-based gadgets will both sport integrated IR blasters and a matching app for controlling the big screen, while 1GHz processors, 4-inch and 8-inch screens, HDMI outputs, GPS, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Micro SD card slots, and Bluetooth connectivity round out the feature sets. Coming sometime between tomorrow and the end of humanity at the hands of Cthulhu.
Pretty cool if you can sync them together.

CAN YOU TEXT, IF SO WIN $100K
Finalists in the 2010 LG U.S. National Texting Championship in New York City will endure blindfolds, complex phrases and marathon texting during the event. The grand prize includes a donation to the charity of the winner's choice and a cool $100,000.
The finalists have already messaged their way through preliminary competition, such as on-site texting challenges at concerts, text alerts on TV shows or texting from online tournaments.
Incidentally, the competition is scheduled to take place the same day the U.S. Department of Transportation hold a summit on distracted driving.
In January, federal safety regulators proposed a set of guidelines for states to create laws that would ban text messaging while driving.
A ban on texting behind the wheel has already been enacted in 19 states and the District of Columbia. Seven states have banned the use of all handheld devices while driving.
LG has launched a program called Text Ed, which advocates safety with texting.
Last year, more than 250,000 participants young and old entered the national battle of texterity.
The final four contestants endured an exhausting battery of drills -- including texting while human emoticons attempted to distract the finalists. Competitors were judged on both accuracy and speed.
One failed to accurately text "Which wicked witch wished which more wicked witch in the well?" while a human emoticon talked trash about her sister.
In the end, 15-year-old Kate Moore of Des Moines, Iowa -- who said she texted more than 400 times a day -- took home the $50,000 grand prize.
should have known a teenager was going to win this contest.

MEET THE GUY YOU COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT
In 1973, Martin Cooper changed the world, although he didn't know it yet.
Cooper and his team at Motorola, the communications company, created maybe the only thing that runs the lives of business professionals and teenagers alike -- the cell phone.
It was the size of a brick and wasn't commercially sold for another decade. But as Cooper demonstrated on a New York sidewalk, it worked.
The concept of cellular technology had already been created by Motorola's rival, AT&T, whose Bell Labs introduced a system allowing calls to be moved from one cell to another while remaining on the same channel. But AT&T was focusing this technology on the car phone.
Cooper wanted people to have freedom to talk on the phone away from their cars. So in reaction, he and Motorola embarked on a project to create a more portable device.
Motorola spent three months building a prototype for a portable, mobile handset that Cooper publicly demonstrated in April of 1973. The company's first commercial cellular phone, the "DynaTAC," went on sale 10 years later.

GET YOUR ASS UP AND PAY THIS BILL
That's kiddy talk compared to the messages one Dallas man received over a $200 debt.
The harassing and threatening voicemail messages left on Allen Jones' mobile phone are nothing short of vulgar.
"This shouldn't be tolerated," he said. "Nobody should have to experience what I had to experience."
Debt collectors from Advanced Call Center Technologies, LLC left eight messages for Jones in August 2007 trying to collect what it said he owed on a credit card.
Most messages were laced with profanity and spewed racial slurs:
"This is your mother******* wake-up call you little lazy a** b****," a collector said on one. "Get your mother******* n****r ass up and go pick some mother******* cotton fields."
Jones is African-American.
"If we did not have tapes, no one would ever believe that this happened," Mark Frenkel, one of Jones' attorneys said.
The recordings are so offensive News 8 decided against publishing transcripts of the others.
"This is absolutely, without a doubt, the most egregious collection case I've ever seen," Dean Malone, Jones' other attorney, added.
Jones sued Advanced Call Center Technologies over the harassing calls.
Friday afternoon, a Dallas County jury awarded him one of the biggest verdicts of its kind.
He won $50,000 in mental anguish and $1.5 million in punitive damages
Hey call my phone next I need $1.5 million.

WHAT DID THREE PEOPLE MURDERED HAVE IN COMMON: THEIR MOBILE PHONE NUMBER
The first owner Vladimir Grashnov – the former CEO of Bulgarian mobile phone company Mobitel which issued the number – died of cancer in 2001 aged just 48.
Despite a spotless business record there were persistent rumours that his cancer had been caused by a business rival using radioactive poisoning.
The number then passed to Bulgarian mafia boss, Konstantin Dimitrov, who was gunned down in 2003 by a lone assassin in the Netherlands during a trip to inspect his £500 million drug smuggling empire.
Dimitrov, who died aged 31, had the mobile with him when he was shot while eating out with a model.
Russian mafia bosses – jealous of his drug smuggling operation – were said to have been behind the killing.
The phone number then passed to Konstantin Dishliev, a crooked businessman, who was gunned down outside an Indian restaurant in Bulgaria's capital Sofia after taking over the jinxed line.
Dishliev, an estate agent, had secretly been running a massive cocaine trafficking operation before his assassination in 2005.
He died after £130 million of the drug was intercepted by police on its way into the country from Colombia.
Since then, the number is understood to have been dormant while police maintained an open file on Dishliev's killing and his smuggling ring.
Now phone bosses are said to have suspended the number for good. Callers now get a recorded message saying the phone is "outside network coverage."
A Mobitel spokesman would only say: "We have no comment to make. We won't discuss individual numbers."
Remind me not to get that phone number, but it could be a case that someone thought the two drug lords worked for the same person and decided to take them both out.

TECH TUESDAY: PSP PHONE
For all you gamers out there would you buy a PSP phone? Hardware manufacturers from clone colony Shanzai are already getting ready to release a PSP phone knockoff in the near future without releasing any specifications. This is really awkward, don't you think? After all, there must be an original which you base your design on, or will the hardware players decide to start with the PSP-3000 or PSP Go? We are extremely interested to see what the final product will look like, and will it suggest what the actual PSP phone (if it ever sees the light of day) be?

TECH TUESDAY: WINDOWS PHONE
I won't be getting this. I'm too hard on phones. As a matter of fact I think I just dropped mine again. But it's pretty cool.
Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Series is a complete re-build of Windows Mobile, with a spartan interface replacing the clutter that had become synonymous with the platform. Key features of the new OS are a series of “hubs” dedicated to specific activities, including one for people that integrates contact information with that person’s various online social networking accounts; a pictures hub for viewing, sharing, and taking pictures and video; a hub for games that offers complete integration with Xbox LIVE; the new music and video hub that borrows heavily from the Zune HD to offer complete Zune functionality and competent media playback; a new marketplace hub for purchasing and downloading new applications; and an Office hub for all you productivity types.

YOU MEAN ALL I NEED IS A CELL PHONE AND I CAN BE RICH
I think I will try this out. I have a lot to say also. Apologies to Tolstoy, but one of the biggest novelists these days is a 15-year-old in Japan who wrote a book from her cell phone using her thumbs. Really.
The new type of storytelling is called "keitai" — cell-phone novels. Aimed squarely at those who can't be parted from their mobiles, teens — mostly young women readers and writers — have turned the cell-phone story into the must-read phone book.
According to a story in the Los Angeles Times, the way it works is writers keep to a cell-screen-friendly 1,000-character limit per page and upload from their phones to publishing websites, then get instant feedback on plot twists and helpful fixes on typos. With a million cell-phone books and 6 million users, fans are giving the new craze a ringing endorsement. The rest when you jump.
