NBC GETS NEW CRAPPY LOGO

Yes this will be the new logo that replaces the famous peacock logo from NBC.  NBC Universal is now NBCUniversal -- without the space, the peacock or the globe silhouette.

That was part of the message delivered to the company's 25,000 employees at a town hall gathering on Thursday that featured top executives from prospective new owner Comcast Corp.
The bird will remain part of the brand of NBC, the broadcaster, while the spinning globe will still be part of the graphic for Universal, the movie studio and theme park operator. And officially, the company's name is still NBC Universal. But the space-less corporate logo is meant to represent the unity of its two main divisions as it is set to be taken over by cable operator Comcast in a deal that is to close on Friday.
I would just like to say how cheap is that logo.

I HOPE THIS GUY FINDS MY WALLET

A Manhattan homeless man had an emotional reunion yesterday with the kindhearted ad executive who lent him her American Express Platinum Card outside a SoHo restaurant, in what became a shining act of generosity, trust and honesty.
"I didn't have to thank him. I trusted him all along," said Merrie Harris, 45, as she hugged Jay Valentine, 32, outside La Esquina on Kenmare Street.
Harris lent her card to Valentine there Monday after he asked her for change. Most people who witnessed the act of extreme generosity doubted he would ever come back. But a short time later, he returned with the card, stunning many and earning Valentine the title of Most Honest Homeless Man in the City.


Valentine said he has been homeless for a few years, since he lost his job at a real-estate company that had allowed him to sleep in the office. He said he now spends his nights in an Internet cafe whose staff allows him to sleep on their chairs. He said he was hungry and low on cash on Monday when he saw Harris standing with friends outside the restaurant.
"I asked her for change and told her I wasn't working," he said.
"She said she only had a card. She said, 'Can I trust you?' I said, 'I'm honest, yes.'
"I went and bought a few things and came back and gave her her credit card back, and everybody was surprised.
"I said thanks for trusting me. I guess she had a good sense of judgment. She knew I was trustworthy."
Valentine said he bought deodorant, body wash, a pack of Nat Sherman cigarettes and Vitaminwater. It all cost about $25, he said.
I have never encountered anyone that honest, hell i wouldn't leave my credit card lying around any of my friends and they all have jobs.

THE MARKET DROPS MO0RE THAN 1000 POINTS AT ONCE

During Thursday's sell-off, the Dow Jones industrial average had its worst one-day, intraday point drop in the history of the index, according to Dow Jones Indexes. Analyists say it may have due to a computer glitch. what ever happened someone made a lot of money and someone lost a lot of money.

AIRLINES DOING ANYTHING FOR MONEY

Spirit Airlines, the Ryanair of the U.S., is pushing the airline fee frenzy to new levels with the introduction of fees for carry-on bags –- as much as a whopping $45 each way to put something in an overhead bin on a flight.
Spirit says it is dropping fares, particularly on the low end, as it imposes new fees. It may well be the first airline in the world to charge for carry-on bags — Ryanair, easyJet, Allegiant, AirAsia and other ultra-low-cost carriers don’t — yet. It’s doubtful bigger airlines will follow, but then again, it was once hard to imagine how aggressively former “full service” airlines embraced tacking on fees for airline passengers.
One advantage of fees for carry-on bags is that they’ll likely discourage fellow passengers from boarding planes like pack mules. Spirit’s chairman and chief executive, Ben Baldanza, says fees for checked baggage upset the balance between carry-on and checked items as passengers tried to avoid checked-baggage fees. The carry-on fee, he said, “will make our boarding faster and easier.”

Remind me not to fly Spirit Airlines.

Symbolics logo 25 years ago

It was 25 years ago -- March 15, 1985 -- that the first dot-com domain name -- Symbolics.com -- appeared on the Internet, ushering in the commercial age of the World Wide Web. Now everyone and their mama has a webpage or is on twitter.

Having a domain name made it simpler for the average person to access a Web site. Instead of having to remember a long series of numbers and dots, you could type in ATT.com, IBM.com or CNN.com.
Development was slow, at first. It took more than two years for the first 100 sites to go online and by 1995, the number had grown to 18,000.
But from those humble beginnings the Internet has grown to more than 80 million dot-com domain names, according to the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation. for more click the jump

UNIVERSAL MUSIC DROPPING PRICES

In an attempt once again to save the music industry and profits, Universal Music Group (UMG) is embarking on one of the most ambitious efforts yet to boost U.S. CD sales, with the test of a new pricing structure designed to sell most new releases by current artists at $10 or less at retail. The major's "Velocity" pricing program responds to the continuing plunge in CD sales, taking aim at brick-and-mortar retail stores that have scaled back on floor space dedicated to music. The pricing adjustments will also bring CD prices more in line with what consumers pay for digital albums at online retailers like iTunes and Amazon.

RICH PEOPLE GETTING REPOSSESED

The repo men are now jacking rich people. Ken Cage isn't your typical repo man. Rather than snatch cars from an over-extended middle class, he takes back yachts, planes and other toys from the over-leveraged rich.

Business is thriving, even as the economy begins to improve. His company, Orlando-based International Recovery Group, repossessed more than 700 boats, planes, helicopters and other property last year valued at more than $100 million. Business, he says, is up six-fold from 2007.
He has reclaimed everything from $18 million Gulfstream jets and Bell helicopters to 110-foot Broward yachts, $500,000 recreational vehicles and even a racehorse. Before the financial crisis, most of the luxury items he pulled in were valued between $30,000 and $50,000. Today, they are valued at $200,000 to $300,000—meaning defaults are hitting people at a much higher income level.

SMELL OF SUCCESS

Beyonce's bank account is sure smelling good. According to Macy's, her Heat perfume has raked in over $3 million since it debuted last month.

Even more astounding, the 28-year-old R&B megastar moved 72,000 bottles of the fragrance -- which boasts "notes of red vanilla orchid, magnolia and blush peach" -- when she stopped by Macy's to sign autographs for an hour in early February. Must be nice

ATHLETES THAT MADE VERY BAD DECISIONS

Almost 80 percent of National Football League players are flirting with bankruptcy two years after they retire, according to Sports Illustrated. NBA players aren’t faring much better. 60 percent of former National Basketball Association players end up broke within five years of retirement. Athletes squander millions of dollars due to bad decisions, lavish spending and poor financial planning. Here is a list of athletes that have lost their fortunes through some of the biggest financial blunders of all time. And I think they are all idiots.

Scottie Pippen

Known more for his on court defense than his off court business sense, former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen lost $120 million in career earnings due to poor financial planning and bad business ideas. Air Jordan’s sidekick blew $27 million on bad investments and spent $4.3 million on a Gulfstream II corporate jet.

Carlos Slim Helu takes No. 1 spot on Forbes World's Billionaires list as a record 164 10-figure titans return to the ranking amid the global economic recovery.

For the third time in three years, the world has a new richest man.
Riding surging prices of his various telecom holdings, including giant mobile outfit America Movil (AMX), Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim Helu has beaten out Americans Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the wealthiest person on earth and nab the top spot on the 2010 Forbes list of the World's Billionaires
Slim's fortune has swelled to an estimated $53.5 billion, up $18.5 billion in 12 months. Shares of America Movil, of which Slim owns a $23 billion stake, were up 35% in a year. Here's a video.

During these cold winter days I started seeing this logo all over the place. I have never heard of this company before. With that being said I did what I do and hit the internet and went to the companies website. Now I see why I never heard of this clothing and apparel company. They specialize in extreme cold weather gear and sports like rock and mountain climbing. Two things I pretty much stay away from. But if your interested click here for a history of the company.  Also this is the company founder US billionaire Douglas Tompkins at his house near Carlos Pellegrini in Corrientes Province, Argentina. The US tycoon, who made a fortune through his North Face and Esprit clothing brands, has become a self-styled eco-warrior having purchased of a vast section of Argentina's northern sweet-water marshes in Corrientes province which he aims to turn into a vast national park
