GUNMAN SHOOTS UP POLICE STATION

Detroit police have released incredible footage of a gun battle that took place inside a precinct Sunday (January 23), between Lamar Moore and police.

The gun battle started when the 38-year old Moore, armed with a 20-gauge shotgun walked into theNorthwestern District station and started dumping shots at cops for no apparent reason.

Police officers return fire, fatally wounding Moore, but not before he managed to shoot four of them.

In the video below which is shown from two different angles, you will see Moore calmly walk in before the shooting starts. At one point during the gun battle he jumps over the police desk as he andCmdr. Brian Davis shoot at each other at point blank range.

NBC GETS NEW CRAPPY LOGO

Yes this will be the new logo that replaces the famous peacock logo from NBC.  NBC Universal is now NBCUniversal -- without the space, the peacock or the globe silhouette.

That was part of the message delivered to the company's 25,000 employees at a town hall gathering on Thursday that featured top executives from prospective new owner Comcast Corp.
The bird will remain part of the brand of NBC, the broadcaster, while the spinning globe will still be part of the graphic for Universal, the movie studio and theme park operator. And officially, the company's name is still NBC Universal. But the space-less corporate logo is meant to represent the unity of its two main divisions as it is set to be taken over by cable operator Comcast in a deal that is to close on Friday.
I would just like to say how cheap is that logo.

GRAND PIANO MYSTERY SOLVED

Over the past couple of days a baby grand piano, parked on a sliver of a sandbar in Miami's Biscayne Bay, launched a thousand ships (ok, little pleasure boats), twitter accounts and countless rumors.

In the end This little installation of junk art, as it's known, was the brainchild of a 16-year-old. Nicholas Harrington is a junior at Mast Academy in Key Biscayne. His accomplices were his brother Andrew and neighbor Julian Roots, both 18. They claim that since the piano has become famous, they will motor back out to the sandbar and remove it.
Just another case of bored rich kids with nothing better to do.

WHAT'S IN TACO BELL 'S MEAT

USA Today and others are reporting of a lawsuit against Taco Bell for the meat in their Tacos. The suit claims that the taco meat at Taco Bell is only 36% beef, which is less than the USDA minimum of 40% for taco meat filling. The suit seeks to have Taco Bell either rename their products or add more beef. Besides the fact that Taco Bell could be below the 40% standard, there is also the aspect that most people are not aware of the USDA labeling definitions for meat filling being only 40% meat. People are also unaware that Taco Bells labels their Taco meat as beef filling. Although I think most people know that fast food is not good quality food. However, Taco Bell is going below already low standards to qualify for the "Where's the beef ?" lawsuit.
This is why I don't eat Taco Bell. If I want to go somewhere and not know what I'm eating I will just go to the local Chinese restaurant.

LEBRON GETS A CARTOON

In his latest venture, Mr. James won’t be fighting crime Batman-style (even if he could probably afford it), but he still hopes to bring inspiration to his young fans. He is taking his talents to the Internet in a new Web-based animated series that will revisit some of his best-known off-the-court performances while featuring socially conscious messages.

The cartoon series, called “The LeBrons” and planned for a spring debut on its own YouTube channel and Mr. James’s Web site, lebronjames.com, will revive the characters from a popular series of Nike commercials in which Mr. Jamesplayed four versions of himself: the youthful and wide-eyed Kid LeBron; the physically adept Athlete LeBron; the smooth and savvy Business LeBron; and an ornery elder statesman called Wise LeBron.

“I’m mostly a kid at heart,” Mr. James said of these manifestations, “and I’m the athlete, of course, that everyone sees. But I also have a business side, a cool side, and I love antique stuff and classical music. I guess that’s the old man side of me.”

“The LeBrons,” whose first season will consist of 10 episodes of five to six minutes each, will center on the world of 16-year-old Kid LeBron and his life in Akron, Ohio, using authentic locations from that city, where Mr. James was born and raised.

While devices like Sphero or Parrot’s AR.Drone that use the iPhone or iPod Touch as a remote control usually just rely on the device’s built-in wifi or Bluetooth, these AppToyz, from a UK-based company called MediaSauce, use a cheap add-on dongle to communicate over RF I assume.

And instead of interfacing with the dock connector on the bottom of the iPhone or iPod Touch, the AppToyz dongle plugs into the headphone jack which seems to be standard procedure for third-party remote control hardware like this. As a result, when available sometime this year, they’ll be a bit more affordable than something like the AR.Drone with an RC helicopter selling for ~$80 (£50) and an RC car that’s a bit cheaper at ~$47 (£30).
I guess this is cool if you lose your original remote.

DeKalb County police are divided over a plan to give TV crews access to murder investigations.

Some officers believe the national exposure from the documentary television series “The First 48” will help
with recruiting, but others are concerned it could actually help criminals instead.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Erica Byfield spoke with people on both sides of the controversy and learned that production crews began shooting just last week.
Byfield also got her hands on the signed contract between DeKalb County and the producers of the television program.
The show airs on a cable channel and tracks detectives across the country as they work to solve homicides.
DeKalb County spokeswoman Mekka Parrish said officials view it as a positive move for the department.
“These detectives work 24 hours a day and this is an opportunity to showcase their hard work, not only for them, but to give the public a better understanding of what goes on when these crimes are committed,” Parrish said.
Not everyone sees it that way.
“You don’t really want to show what all it takes to get it done and maybe the bad guys watch TV too,” said Brian Fisher.
So for all you thugs planning on doing crime in Dekalb county go ahead so we can see you on the big screen.

WOMAN HIT BY MARTA TRAIN

Woman Hit by MARTA Train: MyFoxATLANTA.com

A 31-year old woman is recovering in Grady Memorial hospital Tuesday after being pulled from underneath a MARTA train.

MARTA officials say the woman was sitting in a wheel chair when she intentionally threw herself in front of the oncoming train.
The incident happened around 8:00 a.m. at the MARTA Five Points station.
According to witnesses they tried to flag down the train operator so the driver wouldn't hit the woman.
Atlanta fire units help MARTA officials rescue the woman from the lower levels of the station. According to witnesses, the woman handed a note to a woman near the tracks. She then stood up from her wheelchair and jumped in front of the moving train.
MARTA officials say the woman landed between the rails underneath the train. She suffered non-life threatening injuries and was conscious and alert when transported to Grady.
This lady made me late for work today. Next time if any of you are going to attempt suicide do it between non peak hours please.

JACK LALANNE DIES AT 96

Jack LaLanne, the fitness guru who inspired television viewers to trim down and pump iron for decades before exercise became a national obsession, died Sunday. He was 96. LaLanne died of respiratory failure due to pneumonia Sunday afternoon at his home in Morro Bay on California’s central coast, his longtime agent Rick Hersh said.

“I have not only lost my husband and a great American icon, but the best friend and most loving partner anyone could ever hope for,” Elaine LaLanne, Lalanne’s wife of 51 years and a frequent partner in his television appearances, said in a written statement.

Skins," MTV's controversial new show about a group of very misbehaved teenagers has aired just one episode, and already it is facing severe criticism, advertising snafus and even possible legal action.

After a damning story about the show ran on the front page of Thursday's New York Times, Taco Bell announced that it would be pulling all of its ads from future airings of "Skins." A spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter the show is "not a fit for our brand," and that they would be moving their ads elsewhere on MTV.
"Skins" (based on the racy BBC series of the same name) is raising red flags within the company due to its potentially objectionable content. According to a story on the front page of today's New York Times, executives at the network have expressed concerns that content in forthcoming episodes could expose the company to charges of child pornography.
Brian Stelter reports that, according to an unnamed source at MTV, executives have ordered cuts to the episode slated to air January 31, which apparently revolves around teenaged Chris gravely (and comedically) inconvenienced by the effects of an erectile-dysfunction drug; the actor playing Chris, Jesse Carere, is 17.
Yet another MTV show I will not watch.

WOMAN SOLVES HER OWN KIDNAPPING 23 YEARS LATER

More than two decades ago, a newborn sick with fever was snatched from a New York City hospital, her frantic mother returning to the emergency room to find an empty crib. Police said the baby - now a woman - has been found.


It was a remarkable reunion after Carlina White tracked down the mother she was stolen from 23 years ago when the then-19-day-old was taken from Harlem Hospital.
Now, Joy White and Carlina are back together again.
Joy was 16 years old when she and her husband, Carl Tyson, took their daughter to the hospital on Aug. 4, 1987. Two hours later, they were devastated to learn that their baby was gone, lifted out of the pediatrics ward.


Carlina is now 23 and was raised as Nejdra Nance in Bridgeport, Connecticut and Georgia, while her real mother lived with her grief in the Bronx.
As a teenager, Carlina came to believe she was not related to the family that was raising her. She began to check missing children websites, and she eventually found her own case.
She called the website for help, and they called Joy, the mother who had kept her baby's picture on display all these years.
"She said she just had a feeling, she felt different from the people raising her," said Nance's maternal grandmother, Elizabeth White, 71. "She searched, and then she found Joy."
DNA testing proved Carlina was the stolen child.
Criminal charges for the abduction are possible, as there's no statute of limitations. Meanwhile, after decades apart, the reunion has gone well.
Well at least the story had a happy ending.

Three are dead. Who is Number Four? D.J. L T PLEADS GUILTY

Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor reportedly pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors Thursday in connection to his arrest earlier this year, but will avoid jail time.

The New York Daily News reported that Taylor, 51, pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute, and will face six years of probation. The paper also reported that he will need to register as a sex offender.

In July, Taylor pleaded not guilty to charges that included third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He had been arrested in May by police investigating a reported rape at a Holiday Inn in Montebello, New York, and was alleged to have paid for sex with a 16-year-old girl.

In a federal case against the girl's supposed pimp, court papers state that Taylor admitted to sex acts with the girl, but was informed she was 19.

KANYE'S NEW WATCH

Tiret has a nice little thing going for itself when it comes to high-status celebs who want some of them, on their wrist. I previously wrote about a watch that Tiret made for Usher here. The same concept (but done differently) was applied to a watch for musician Kanye West. You have the same oblong "Second Chance" watch case design, in 18k yellow gold. Coming with a gold bracelet or reptile strap, Kanye seems to be enjoying his (as he seems to wear it a lot). 

The watch dial features two Swiss quartz chronograph movements. So you have two times, two chronographs, etc... The real allure is in all the jewel work. Tiret claims it took them over five months to create the dial. The dial itself is in gold toned mother-of-pearl, with a combo of white, yellow, brown, and black diamonds. The bezel is lined with very large diamonds as well. The watch is said to have a total of about 8 carats of stones. Kayne's face has been immortalized on the dial - complete with sunglasses. Retail price for this is said to be about $180,000, and is custom made specially for each client. 
I like Kanye and I like watches but not this.

This week MYSPACE has fired 47% of it’s staff (500 people) and rumors are News Corp. is preparing to sell the company.  Here’s what CEO Mike Jones had to say about the possible end of an era:

“Today’s tough but necessary changes were taken in order to provide the company with a clear path for sustained growth and profitability,” Jones said in the statement. “These changes were purely driven by issues related to our legacy business, and in no way reflect the performance of the new product.”

After the restructuring, MySpace will be put up for sale, All Things D, a website owned by New York-based News Corp., reported yesterday. The business will be offered to private equity firms and possibly to Yahoo! Inc., the website said.

In a few more years Facebook will be gone as well mark my words.

REAL LIFE SUPERHERO GETS HIS REAL NOSE BROKEN

In a scene right out of the movie "Defendor". a Seattle crime fighting "super hero" Phoenix Jones saw a fight over the weekend and went to break it up. And just like Woody Harrelson's character in 'Defendor', Phoenix Jones got his ass mopped and dropped, ending up with a broken nose.

But the caped crusader has no intention of ending his mission of crime fighting even though he got his ass kicked.
